The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on 4th May at 7pm and on the same evening we plan to host the village Annual Parish Meeting at 7:30pm. This is an important public meeting, where priorities for the Parish Council are set. We would like to see as many residents take part as possible. It is not a Parish Council meeting, but a village meeting. There is no set agenda, but the Parish Council will submit a number of reports on the work we have been doing on your behalf, and we will have a chance to discuss how residents see the village developing, including the pond and playground.

As lockdown restrictions ease, it may be possible for the Annual Parish Meeting to be held in person, in the church, as it has been in years past. (It had to be cancelled last year for obvious reasons). It will need to be delayed a while yet, but we would like to hear your opinion on whether the meeting should be held in-person when we can, or should go ahead virtually in May.

Today we have deployed two new planters at the village gateway on Mill Hill Road to add a bit more colour to the approach to the village. These have been donated by Mrs Christine Matthew and the “Friends of Glancammarch Brewery” using funds raised at pre-pandemic social events. Thanks to all friends and neighbours who donated. Mrs M will look after them for us.

The plants are intended to be “deer proof”, but we will no doubt see what the Muntjac have to say about that. We have a secret ingredient in the compost to deter them!

Voting safely at elections in May

On Thursday 6 May 2021 residents in King’s Lynn & West Norfolk will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them at both Police Crime & Commissioner and Norfolk County Council elections.

Even though elections are not until May, we’re already making plans to help you stay safe while casting your vote.

There are a number of ways to have your say – you can vote in a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote.

Lorraine Gore, Local Returning Officer for King’s Lynn & West Norfolk said: “Elections are very important – they are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

“Preparing for an election at any time is resource intensive, preparing for an election during a pandemic is a whole different challenge.  The elections scheduled for 6 May 2021 are still scheduled to go ahead.   We are planning for these elections now so that, however you choose to cast your vote in May, you can do so safely. We will be putting arrangements in place to help you stay safe at the polling station but you also have the option to apply to vote by post or by proxy.”

Ailsa Irvine, Director of Electoral Administration and Guidance at the Electoral Commission said: “The choice on how to vote at May’s elections is yours – you can have your say in person, by post or by proxy.

“If you’re thinking about voting by post, you can apply now. This will make sure your application is processed early, and your postal vote can be sent to you more quickly. It’s easy to apply and you can find out how by visiting the Electoral Commission website.

“You need to be registered to vote in order to have a say at the elections – the easiest way to register is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote”

In accordance with the provisions of Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984, the Norfolk County Council HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that to facilitate emergency flooding relief the use by vehicles of the A148 Nar Ouse Way from a point 390m south of its junction with A148 Out South Gates (Southgates Roundabout) in a southerly direction for a distance of 100m in the BOROUGH OF KING’S LYNN will be temporarily prohibited from 8^th to 12^th February 2021 for the duration of the works, expected to be about 5 days within the period. If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 21 days.

Alternative route is via:- A148 Nar Ouse Way, A47 Trunk Road From The Pullover Roundabout To The Hardwick Roundabout, A47 J A148 Join E, A47 Through J A148 E, A47 From J A148 To J A10/a149 Larger Roundabout E, A47 J A10/a149 Overbridge E, A47 J A10/a149 Larger Of Two Roundabouts, A149 Hardwick Road, and vice-versa (North Runcton/ Kings Lynn/ Saddlebow).

Over the last weekend a group of nine volunteers working separately picked a combined total of about 20 bin bags of rubbish from the streets of Boughton and surrounding lanes. Many thanks to those who helped out.

The worst locations were Stoke Road, parts of Oxborough Road and the first part of Gibbet Lane towards Fincham Road. Despite lockdown restrictions people are still finding the time to throw their rubbish in our ditches and on our verges.

Please, if you are walking your dogs, take your poo bags home with you. If you are trying to quit smoking do not discard your NiQuitin packaging as litter. If you are fond of Polish Cherry Brandy, do not throw your empty bottles at the side of the road.
