Residents of Boughton, check your post boxes for our pond survey!

We are looking for your comments and suggestions for the future maintenance of Boughton Pond following the recent groundworks aimed at improving drought resilience. Once the new bank areas have been prepared for reseeding there are some choices to make about planting and future upkeep.

Please complete the questionnaire and return to the collection box in the church porch as soon as you can. Your feedback will help with a possible grant application. We shall also be asking for villagers’ help with maintenance. The more volunteers we have the fewer contractors will we need and the lower the annual costs to the village.

The Parish Council had planned to hold a presentation regarding the pond at a public meeting in September. It had been intended for residents to have the opportunity to hear from several experts about strategies that could improve the pond’s resilience to drought. Unfortunately, those guest speakers are no longer available. The Parish Council has therefore decided to defer the public meeting, pending an evaluation of the results of the recent works on the pond and a questionnaire for residents which will be circulated later this month. As always, residents are welcome to provide their views and comments in the interim by emailing the Clerk of the Parish Council at clerk@boughton-pc.gov.uk.

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk are beginning a scoping consultation on a new Local Plan. They have arranged drop-in and online sessions for the public. They will be held throughout September as follows:

Given that there is now sufficient water for ducks to swim again in the Pond, as well as many other sources of water such as puddles, etc., the receptacles being used to provide water for the ducks have now been emptied and stacked. This is to prevent a real risk of spreading disease among the mallard population at the Pond. If you have provided containers for water over the last few weeks, we’d be grateful if you could now collect and remove them from The Green.

The Parish Council have received the following notice from RAF Marham:

RAF Marham wishes to advise local residents that, from the week commencing Monday 27th July, runway operations will temporarily move to the KILO taxiway while essential resurfacing works take place on the main runway.

As a result of this change, local residents in the villages of Barton Bendish, Beachamwell and Fincham may notice a change to the usual flight pattern, with aircraft flying to the south of these villages during the works.

These works are expected to continue until the autumn, after which normal runway operations and flight patterns will resume.

RAF Marham apologises for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks local communities for their continued understanding and support.
