The Parish Council have been notified of a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order affecting Mill Hill Road, from 30m south of the junction with Gibbet Lane and extending for 540m. There will be a 30mph speed limit in place. This is for Anglian Water works and is expected from 30th March until 31st October.

I wanted to take this opportunity to make you aware of the Warm Homes:Local Grant scheme which is now open for applications to residents of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

Letters have been landing at various properties across the borough over the last few days, so I wanted to ensure that all parish councils are provided with the necessary reassurance around the legitimacy of this grant.

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk has been working as part of the Norfolk Warm Homes consortium since 2022 to facilitate the implementation of domestic energy efficiency grants across the borough. These grants typically accommodate the replacement of central heating with air source heating, insulation measures and solar PV where appropriate.

Previous grants have included LAD & HUG, however these have now both been replaced by the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG) which is now open for applications.

RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service) boxes are an old technology, introduced in the 1980s, attached to electricity meters in homes with an all-electric supply. Their purpose is to tell the meter when to switch between peak and off-peak and they are a vital part of keeping costs under control for all-electric customers.

At the end of June, all RTS boxes will stop working.

As such it is the responsibility of the utility providers to help their customers with this, by switching them to SMART meters. However, our research has shown that information on the subject is not that easy to find and, although we believe that the utility companies have written to their customers, we know that some people have a mistrust of SMART meters. We know of customers in West Norfolk who have refused to switch for this very reason.

Our concern is that some vulnerable customers will find their bills soaring in June, when their meter will stop differentiating between peak and off-peak, so they will be charged peak prices for all consumption.

I am writing to ask you to do anything you can in your own ward or parish to raise awareness, if necessary directly, with anyone you know who may be affected.
